Physical activity has long been part of many cultures worldwide as a form of recreation, health and fitness. Furthermore, these regulations discourage cheating (using weaknesses in other players to gain an unfair advantage) and bribery (taking payments to influence an event’s result).
Sport can either be organized or unorganized. When children play neighborhood football games without any organizational structure in charge of them, this constitutes unorganized sport. On the other hand, athletes playing organized sport for a school, business, club or other organization that schedules and enforces its rules can also be considered organized sport; sometimes these organisations even pay their members for services rendered.
An essential aspect of sport is having an objective measure of achievement that can be met using equipment and within prescribed parameters. For instance, one way baseball qualifies as a sport is through its run scoring differential between teams; many sports use regular seasons and playoffs to crown an annual champion.
